Debt Collectors = Friendly?
Let’s face it, we don’t usually equate a debt collection experience with being pleasant. When you think of a debt collection company, you may think of hounding calls, harassing communication and aggressive threats. We all know that debt collectors no doubt have a very bad reputation; in fact debt collection practices have become the 2nd largest source of complaints to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Reports have shown that revenue generated from debt collection companies has dropped over recent years. This is obviously bad new for the bottom line, and causing a stir. To make matters worse, the industry has been hit hard by updated regulations and an increase in actions taken against violations. It is time for the debt collection industry to make a drastic change.
Few agencies have opted to take a different approach to collection debts…being nice, helpful and sometimes even creating laughter amongst it’s customers during a tough time.
Find out more about how some debt collection companies are ‘playing the nice card’ for a change and seeing how that affects their returns and responsiveness from debts.
What to do if a Collector is Not So Friendly
Unfortunately, not all debt collection agencies play nice. There are many unethical and downright cruel practices that occur on a daily basis, all in the attempt to collect money from the consumer.
- Calling during odd hours- before 8 am and after 9pm.
- Calling consumers at work.
- Publically displaying the consumers debt.
- Threatening potential arrest or legal action.
- Contacting the consumer repeatedly in the attempt to harass and annoy.
- Collecting money from consumers that do not actually have any debt.
