Additionally, Joseph Gentilcore was chosen to this year’s Pennsylvania Rising Stars list. James A. Francis (Jim) has been selected to Super Lawyers each consecutive year since 2004 and is a founding partner of the firm. In 2004 he was the youngest lawyer to be selected a Top 100 lawyer in Pennsylvania, and has been regularly selected as a Top 100 lawyer for both Pennsylvania and Philadelphia since then. Jim was trial and appellate counsel in Ramirez v. Trans Union, a 2017 case that resulted in the largest class action verdict brought under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ($60 million). He was awarded the Equal Justice Award by Community Legal Services of Philadelphia, and was part of a selected group of national plaintiffs’ lawyers to be profiled in Law 360’s Titans of the Plaintiff’s Bar series.
Mark D. Mailman, a managing shareholder and firm co-founder, has been selected to Super Lawyers each consecutive year since 2004. He received his Juris Doctor from the Temple University Beasley School of Law and is currently a member of the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, the Philadelphia Bar Association, and the National Association of Consumer Advocates. Mark regularly serves on the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Federal Courts Committee. His cases pertain to fair debt collection, fair credit reporting, false employment/background checks, identity theft, unwanted auto calls and texts, and consumer class actions. Mark is a certified arbitration panelist with the Federal Arbitration Panel and serves on the Editorial Board of the Consumer Financial Services Law Report. He also received the 2018 Consumer Attorney of the Year award by the National Association of Consumer Advocates.
John Soumilas, a firm shareholder, has been selected to Super Lawyers each consecutive year since 2013, and was selected to Rising Stars for years prior. He received his Juris Doctor from Temple University Beasley School of Law. He represents victims of identity theft, persons defamed and otherwise harmed by credit and background screening errors, and individuals subjected to deceptive or unfair trade practices. John handles both class actions and individual cases, and has obtained some of the highest consumer jury verdicts in his area of practice, including the highest known Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) verdicts in Pennsylvania, California, and Michigan. John is a regular lecturer on consumer matters, including for the National Business Institute, the National Consumer Law Center, the Practicing Law Institute, and the National Association of Consumer Advocates.
David A. Searles, of counsel, has been selected to Super Lawyers from 2004 to 2011, and each consecutive year since 2013. He earned his law degree from the American University Washington College of Law and specializes in consumer and bankruptcy law cases. David has previously received the Equal Justice Award and has served as a chairman of the Education Committee of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Bankruptcy Conference. David previously served as the Pennsylvania contributor to Survey of State Class Action Law and was a contributing author of Pennsylvania Consumer Law. Additionally, he has taught advanced bankruptcy law at the Rutgers University School of Law, business law at Widener University, and bankruptcy law at Pierce Junior College in Philadelphia.
Joseph Gentilcore, an attorney, has been selected to Rising Stars each consecutive year since 2013. He received his Juris Doctor from the Temple University Beasley School of Law, where he served on the executive board of Temple’s Moot Court Honors Society. He represents clients wronged by large financial entities, such as credit card companies, banks, debt collectors, mortgage servicers, and background check companies. Joseph is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as numerous federal courts throughout the country. His experience has led him to lecture before multiple audiences on various topics, such as background checks, credit reporting inaccuracies, and mortgage fraud.
